Prayer for husband's long life.

Old man on roadside.

Curious rural family, never saw a video camera before.

Fattening up the merchandise.

Waiting to cross the river.

Restaurant delivery Katmandu style.

Globalization

I gave this poor rural girl my favorite scarf.

The country folk are so destitute the Maoist rebel movement is very popular.

Warming up at breakfast.

There is no residential refrigeration so all meals are made from fresh foods.

The most dangerous highway in the world: Katmandu to Pokhara, eight hours. No guard rails, no Driver's Ed, no traffic enforcement, they pass on curves as fast as possible laying on the horn, 100-500 feet straight down. I made it both ways alive.

One of the Top 10 Dumbest Things I ever agreed to. Pokhara, Nepal: Traveling Kasmiri snake charmers pulled me (the only Westerner) out of the crowd of onlookers and put an eight foot boa constrictor around my neck, then two hissing cobras! I didn't know about the cobras because they were in the baskets. Here the swami is warning me to stay perfectly still, but of course not in English. Afterward I  learned the cobras only strike if you move. Ugh! I lived though.

"What a long strange trip it's been..."
